Making calls on an IP phone or fax line

On-campus calls

Dial 7 then the extension (ex. 71885)

Off-campus calls

All off-campus calls, including local calls from campus phones, require full 10-digit dialing (8 + 1 + 906-XXX-XXXX). No cost is incurred for local 10-digit dialing.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has adopted 988 as a new three-digit number for the National Suicide and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline, starting July 16, 2022. In order for 988 to work nationwide, 10-digit local dialing must be implemented. This change affects 82 area codes across the country, including the 906 area code.

International calls

For international calls, dial 8 + 011 + country code + the city code (not required with every country) + the local number. There may be a long delay while the number connects.

Forwarding calls on an IP phone

Dial *64 then 8 + 1 + area code + phone number to forward calls. To remove call forwarding, dial #64.
