Below are some common reasons your HuskyCard might not be working.
Reported as lost
Did you report your HuskyCard as lost using the Report Lost Card feature? You can Report Found Card in the same way to reactivate it. Are trying to use a previous one that you had lost? Only one HuskyCard can be active on your account.
Damage
Please refrain from punching holes in or causing other damage to your HuskyCard. Keep it in a holder when not in use. Please keep your HuskyCard away from any inductive devices, such as a wireless phone charger.
If your HuskyCard has been physically damaged, you may need a replacement HuskyCard for a $15 fee.
Inactive status
Only actively enrolled students or current employees will have an active HuskyCard. Upon leaving the university, the HuskyCard will be deactivated.
If you are a newly-admitted student, there may be factors impacting your status, e.g., tuition balances, outstanding fees, or other payments due to the university. Please check with the Registrar if you have any questions about your status.
Door reader issue
During normal business hours, most academic and office building doors are unlocked. Only actively enrolled students or current employees will have an active HuskyCard, so your door access is determined by your role at the university. Otherwise, you will only be able to access certain doors during set times for which you have permission. Access for a specific room or building must be requested and approved.
If you tap the door when the door location is unlocked, it will show a green light; you would not tap your card. If you tap your card when the light is green, you will be denied access.
If you are tapping your card repeatedly in a short amount of time, this may affect access. Please allow at least eight seconds before trying to tap your HuskyCard on the card reader again.
If you are continuing to have issues, note the color light that displays on the card reader when you tap your card. Report a door issue request to IT, noting the light color and date/time, and any other details, e.g., if the light displays but the door does not open.
If you need to request access, please contact your supervisor, adviser, or authorized requester for the door. Please see Using a HuskyCard for Door Access for the procedure.
SDC membership needed
Michigan Tech students who are actively enrolled have access to SDC facilities through student fees. All others need to purchase a membership to access the facilities.
Experience Tech Fee payment (students only)
Students only: you will need to have paid your Experience Tech fee.
Meals or funds needed
You need to have an active meal plan with enough meals or a balance to purchase items. Check your balances or add meals or funds to your HuskyCard.
A minimum Express Cash/Dining Dollars balance of $3.00 is required to make a purchase at the vending machines on campus.
