Resetting a forgotten Michigan Tech password

To use this feature, you must have already set up your mobile number or secret questions in the Michigan Tech Account Center. If you have not done this, please see the instructions at Password and account recovery methods.

Using your mobile number

  1. Enter your Michigan Tech account name in the User ID field at the Michigan Tech Account Center.
  2. Select Forgot password? (Mobile Number Recovery).
  3. Fill in the following:
    • Enter your Michigan Tech account name in the Username field.
    • Enter your Birth Date in the Birth Date field. Use mm/dd/yyyy date format or browse the date using the calendar tool.
    • Check the box to agree to receive text messages on your mobile device.
  4. Select the Request PIN button.
  5. You will receive a pop-up message that the PIN has been sent via text to your mobile phone number.
  6. You will receive a text on your mobile phone from the Information Security Team to use the PIN provided to continue with the password reset and when the PIN will expire.
  7. Enter the PIN that was provided to you into the PIN field. If you need to resend your PIN, click Resend PIN. 
  8. Select Validate.
  9. Review the password rules.
  10. Create and confirm your new password.
  11. If your password was accepted, you will see, "You have successfully reset the password for the selected accounts/groups." Select OK. You can then close out of the Michigan Tech Account Center.
  12. If your password was not accepted, review the reasons and try resetting your password again, making the required changes.

Using your secret questions

  1. Enter your Michigan Tech account name in the User ID field at the Michigan Tech Account Center.
  2. Select Forgot password? (Security Questions).
  3. Enter the answer to each of the secret questions that appear. You can select Shuffle Questions to pick different secret questions. If you are getting a request to enter your authorization code, you must have already set up your secret questions in order to use this recovery feature. 
  4. Select Submit. Create and confirm your new password.
  5. If your password was accepted, you will see You have successfully reset the password for the selected accounts/groups. Select OK. You can then close out of the Michigan Tech Account Center.
  6. If your password was not accepted, please see the box and try resetting your password again, making the required changes.
