You can use an email client to find information from the Campus Directory.
Starting July 7, 2020, authentication is required to access campus directory information off-campus using an email client. You can use the following settings to set up your email client.
- Name: MTU
- Hostname: ldap.mtu.edu
- Base DN: ou=people,dc=mtu,dc=edu
- Port number: 636
- Bind DN: uid=<yourusername>,ou=people,dc=mtu,dc=edu
Replace <yourusername> with your Michigan Tech account name. Example: uid=blizzard,ou=people,dc=mtu,dc=edu
- Select Use secure connection (SSL)
Thunderbird
- Open Thunderbird.
- Select Mail Toolbar then Options. Alternatively, you can select Tools, then Options from your Menu Bar.
Note: Right-click on the empty space near the top of Thunderbird to enable your Menu Bar or Mail Toolbar.
- Select Options.
- Select the Pencil icon in the sidebar.
- Select the Addressing tab.
- Select Directory Server.
- Select Edit Directories.
- Select Edit if you have an existing LDAP Directory Server listed. Select Add to add a directory server.
- Enter the LDAP information:
- Name: MTU
- Hostname: ldap.mtu.edu
- Base DN: ou=people,dc=mtu,dc=edu
- Port number: 636
- Bind DN: uid=<yourusername>,ou=people,dc=mtu,dc=edu
Replace <yourusername> with your Michigan Tech account name. Example: uid=blizzard,ou=people,dc=mtu,dc=edu
- Select Use secure connection (SSL)
- Select OK to apply the change.
- The next time you go to compose an email, and you use the directory server, you will be prompted to enter your Michigan Tech password.
