Michigan Tech's Gmail configuration does not allow for the request of read receipts.
Read receipts are problematic; they are a known method for spammers to be able to verify an email address exists and build a list of 'valid' email addresses to use and/or sell to other parties.
Read receipts may also be unreliable. Email can be configured not to reply to read receipt requests, for example, or a message can be previewed and deleted without sending a notification.
