Using Duo while travelling

Tags duo

When traveling outside of the United States, the SMS and Call Me options within the Duo app may not work in certain countries. The following options are available for using Duo authentication.

Push notifications

If your mobile device has an Internet connection, you can use the Duo mobile app to receive a push notification.

Passcode

If you do not have access to the Internet, you can still use the Duo mobile app to retrieve a one-time use passcode.

  1. From the main screen of the Duo mobile app, select the down arrow to reveal a six-digit passcode.
  2. Enter this code in the Passcode field and select the Enter a Passcode button to complete verification.

Duo token

If you do not have a smartphone, you can request a Duo token, which generates a passcode. It does not require an Internet connection and is small enough to put on a keychain. Contact IT to request a physical token.

Bypass code

If you reach out to IT in advance, we can generate a multiple-use security code that will be valid for the duration of your travels. This code should be securely stored on your person (e.g., in a wallet).
