Securing a compromised account

If your Michigan Tech account has been compromised, here are some steps you can follow to regain control.

  1. Change your password at Don't do this from a computer that may be infected because it could steal your new password.
  2. Contact Michigan Tech IT at (906) 487-1111 or email
  3. Run a malware scan. Some malware infections will steal your passwords as you type them.
  4. Log into your Gmail and select Details at the bottom of the page. Select Sign out all other web sessions.  For more information visit the Google Support article on Last Account Activity.

Michigan Tech IT will sometimes change passwords or lock accounts that have been compromised to prevent unauthorized access from attackers. If you find that your account is locked or you can't log in, please call IT at (906) 487-1111 during university business hours and we can help you regain control of your account.
