This article explains how to connect to the multidrive from a minimally managed or personal computer running Windows 10. Once connected, you will see all of the folders to which you have access, including your home directory within the Multidrive folder, and will be displayed as mtucifs_home.
VPN connection required
The following steps require you to first make a connection to the campus VPN. (VPN instructions for Windows). Your Multidrive will only function while connected to the internet with a working secure VPN connection. If you disconnect from the Internet or wake your device from sleep, you will likely have to reconnect the VPN first before being able to access the Multidrive.

Instructions
- From the Windows menu, open File Explorer.
- In the left navigation pane, right-click on This PC and select Map network drive... from the dropdown menu.
- In the Map Network Drive window, select Drive M: from the dropdown menu and enter \\multidrive.mtu.edu\multidrive in the Folder: field.
Note: If you would like to map your H Drive, repeat the process. Select H: under Drive, enter \\homes.mtu.edu\home in the Folder: field.
- Make sure the boxes are checked for Reconnect at sign-in and Connect using different credentials and select Finish to continue.
- When prompted to enter network credentials, enter your Michigan Tech account name and password, making sure you place MTU\ before your account name. For example: for the email address: joeuser@mtu.edu, the account would be entered as MTU\joeuser. Select OK to continue.
- If successful, your Multidrive will now be mounted as the drive letter chosen in step 3, and you will be able to see it from inside any application used on your computer or from Windows Explorer.
Clearing your credentials
If you did not enter the MTU\ before your account name or need to enter an updated password, you will need to clear your credentials and remap the multidrive. You may see the M: drive and the folders, but you get an error that you cannot access the folders or another error.
- Open Credential Manager from the Start Menu.
- Select Windows Credentials.
- Select the entry for multdrive.mtu.edu.
- Select Remove.
- Open File Explorer.
- Right-click on M: multidrive.
- Select Disconnect.
- Restart your computer.
- Repeat the instructions for mapping the multidrive, making sure to enter the account name in the format: MTU\accountname
