Activate and set up a Michigan Tech cellular device

Activate your device

If you are a faculty or staff member who purchased a cellular device through Michigan Tech IT, please use the following instructions to set up and use your device.

Verizon

  1. Visit Verizon Smart Setup for instructions to activate, set up your device, and transfer content.
  2. Use the SIM card that came with the device or, if you have eSIM, use the instructions at Activating your eSIM.
  3. Set up your new device. Turn on your new device and follow the on-screen instructions.

AT&T

  1. Visit AT&T Set up & activate your device for instructions to activate, set up your device, and transfer content.
  2. Use the SIM card that came with the device or, if you have eSIM, use the instructions at Get to know eSIM.
  3. Set up your new device. Turn on your new device and follow the on-screen instructions.

Connect to wireless

Michigan Tech students, staff, and faculty should connect to eduroam for computers, tablets, and phones. Log in with your Michigan Tech email and password. Visit Connecting to wireless for more information.

Install and activate Duo

We recommend installing Duo's smartphone app to your device. It's easy to use and also functions as a built-in security code generator so you can log in even if you don't have cell service or WiFi at the time. You can also install and activate the Duo app on a second device, such as a tablet or another smartphone, as a backup, in case your primary phone is lost, stolen, or broken. Visit Duo app - installation and activation for more information.

Replacement phone with the same phone number

If you have the same phone number you have previously registered in Duo, use the phone number method to authenticate with Duo on your new phone. Then, you can activate the Duo app on your replacement phone using the Two Step Registration page. Visit Duo app - installation and activation for more information.

Add your Michigan Tech email

You can add your Michigan Tech email to your cellular device. Visit Adding your Michigan Tech email account to your phone or tablet for more information.
