Using Banner 8 on Microsoft Edge (Windows)

Use Microsoft Edge

Edge is the currently-supported Microsoft browser for this application. Internet Explorer is no longer supported by Microsoft as of June 15, 2022. 

Java

Requirements

Banner 8 requires Java 32bit and Java 64bit. Java can be downloaded from Java.com MTU owned computers should have these requirements already installed. 

Security warning

You will need to accept the security warning to proceed with using Banner 8.

  1. Open Configure Java from the Start Menu.
  2. Navigate to the Advanced Tab and scroll down to “Check for signed code certificate revocation using”.
  3. Select the radio button for “Certificate Revocation Lists (CRLs)” and select Apply.

Reports

Before you run a report, you will need to allow the Banner 8 site in your pop-up setttings. When you generate a report in Banner 8, you may get a Database User Authentication for Oracle Reports screen with Database user authentication is missing. Please use the following instructions for running reports.

Instructions

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Visit edge://settings/content/popups or select the three dots in the upper right corner of Edge > Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Pop-ups and redirects.
  3. Select Add under Allow.
  4. Enter https://banweb.mtu.edu/banner8.
  5. Select Add.
  6. Visit the Banner 8 site in Microsoft Edge.
  7. Generate the report. 
  8. Enter the following to log in to Oracle Reports:
    • User Name: Your Michigan Tech account name
    • Password:  Your Banner 8 password
    • Database: PROD

Internet Explorer compatibility mode

You can use Banner 8 using Microsoft Edge on your Michigan Tech fully managed device running Windows 10 (ex. computername.ad), without entering Internet Compatibility mode as this is already configured. This is the typical setup for most office desktops.

If you are using a minimally managed (ex. computername.sabu) or a personal device, you will need to take additional steps to use Banner 8 on Microsoft Edge.

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Visit edge://settings/defaultBrowser or select the three dots in the upper right corner of Edge > Settings > Default browser.
  3. Select Add under Internet Explorer mode pages.
  4. Enter https://banweb.mtu.edu/banner8
  5. Select Add.
  6. Visit Banner 8.
  7. Select the three dots in the upper right corner of the browser window.
  8. Select Reload in Internet Explorer Mode.
  9. Repeat the process every 30 days.

Add to Trusted Site List

  1. Go to Settings in Microsoft Edge.
  2. Go to Default Browser.
  3. Select Internet Options.
  4. Select the Security tab.
  5. Select Trusted Sites.
  6. Add the Banner 8 URL (https://banforms.it.mtu.edu/banner8) and select Add.
