Third-party data breaches (not necessarily of MTU partners) have resulted in a significant volume of personal information on many MTU affiliates. In many cases, this data is enough to answer common questions used to vet individual identities. This is an issue that other schools have also experienced in the past few months.
For this reason, using knowledge-based verification (i.e., answering personal questions) is no longer sufficient and secure enough.
To address this issue, MTU has made a change to how we are verifying identity using multi-factor authentication. This change is meant to better secure your account and MTU against account compromise and potential data breach or financial fraud activities.
