Compromised Michigan Tech account
If your Michigan Tech account has been compromised, here are some steps you can follow to regain control.
- Change your password at mylogin.mtu.edu. Don't do this from a computer that may be infected because it could steal your new password.
- Contact Michigan Tech IT at (906) 487-1111 or email it-help@mtu.edu.
- Run a malware scan. Some malware infections will steal your passwords as you type them.
- Log into your Gmail and select Details at the bottom of the page. Select Sign out all other web sessions. For more information visit the Google Support article on Last Account Activity.
- Follow along with the Google Security Checklist, but skip the step to reset your password, as you should have already changed your password at mylogin.mtu.edu. For more information visit the Google Support article on Gmail Security Tips.
Michigan Tech IT will sometimes change passwords or lock accounts that have been compromised to prevent unauthorized access from attackers. If you find that your account is locked or you can't log in, please call IT at (906) 487-1111 during university business hours and we can help you regain control of your account.
Compromised financial information
If you provided your financial information in a phishing attempt or scam, please contact Michigan Tech Public Safety at 906-487-2216 immediately, as well as your financial institution. Michigan Tech Public Safety will take your report and, In some cases, may be able to assist in recovering funds. Financial institutions may require a police report in order to have accounts reimbursed.
